Creature Slayer: Portability Woes

Hey all, folks at Sunny Island Studio here. Buckle up, because we've got some news that hits harder than a Ice Slime's freeze spell. Remember those whispers about bringing Creature Slayer to your Android phones and the Microsoft Store? Yeah, about that...

Unfortunately, porting to Android and the Microsoft Store hasn't worked out. It's not that we don't want to – trust us, the thought of unleashing Creature Slayer to a whole new audience is what our dreams were. But here's the grim reality: the tools we used to build Creature Slayer, well, are limited.

We used RPG Maker MZ before finding out that porting to Android wasn't as simple as it used to be back when RPG Maker MV released. That's not to say we can't do it, but it would require more money that the game simply doesn't make. Of course, Creature Slayer isn't a paid game, though we have received donations for it. As a small indie team, we simply don't want to spend the extra money to port a free game over to Android and not get anything in return. The Microsoft Store is a whole other creature. WE have spent hours upon hours trying to port the EXE file to MSIX format and that has not gone well. Visual Studio deprecated some of the functionality to help, which means we are at a dead end.

So, what does this mean for all you mobile creature slayers and Microsoft Store-only slayers out there? We're afraid it means we simply won't be porting the games over, unless someone from the community can help us out.

Instead of bashing our heads against a brick wall made of deprecated tools, we're focusing our efforts on new adventures. We've got some fresh ideas brewing, bubbling cauldrons of creativity filled with spells, swords, and enough pixelated peril to keep you on the edge of your seat. Who knows, maybe one day those cauldrons will birth the next Creature Slayer, one that can conquer any platform it sets its fiery claws on.

In the meantime, keep slaying those creatures. And who knows, maybe one day we'll surprise you with a port that's as smooth as a freshly-slain slime. Until then, stay frosty, creature slayers, and keep an eye out for what Sunny Island Studio cooks up next.

Cheers,

The Sunny Island Studio Dev Team
